My name is Mich Choc Chip (named after Mint Choc Chip – the BEST flavour). Everyone who knows me knows about my love for Ice Cream. Some people call it an addiction, others call it an obsession, either way - most people like to come with me when I’m tracking down my next hit.
The Purpose
I noticed last year that good ice cream shops have to be hunted down. There aren’t many in the yellow pages, and few have websites. I suppose that they do well enough on passing trade, being generally in tourist spots, but that is no good for the ice cream enthusiast. I like to plan my day trip around the ice cream, not just go out and hope that ice cream will be available when I get there! I wondered about putting together a guide book, but I’m far too lazy for that, so I settled on a blog. I have included a ‘Directory’ page, so that I can list all known ice cream shops by location, in the hope that other enthusiasts/maniacs will benefit.
The Reviews
The ice cream scoring system has had a number of different incarnations. It all started in the Summer of 2010, when myself and my gentleman friend Mr Hughes were high as kites, having mistakenly ordered a double scoop each from Forte's in Rhos on Sea (they are VERY generous). We decided that we had eaten so many great ice creams that year – and it was only June – how on earth were we to keep track of which were the best?? The initial criteria included a score for ‘Location’. This caused problems, as we could never decide whether it referred to how nice the local area was, or how convenient it was to home. Either way, it skewed the statistics rotten so it was soon abandoned. We also abandoned a rather complicated weighting system, that could only have made sense to a person high on I2C3 (the chemical symbol). I decided that the scores for this blog should be decided by all present on an ice cream trip – ‘The Panel’.
It is important to note that the enjoyment of an ice cream trip is not limited to cone, flavour and quality - aspects such as who you are with, what you are doing, what the weather is like, all play a part. For this reason, reviews will no doubt include fun things to do in the local area, mostly things like foot paths, mountain bike trails, campsites, exciting hills to climb etc (we like outdoors).
PS. If you’ve read this far, you probably think I have OCD. I probably have, but Ice Cream is known to be a cure, so not to worry.
PPS. My parents did not name me Mich Choc Chip. Just Mich. They aren’t that cruel.
PPPS. I made I2C3 up. But I like it, so I’m keeping it.
PPPPS. I don’t think ice cream is actually a cure for OCD, but I will keep testing the theory.
